I submitted an order at Stewmac and forgot to order guitar plans. I wanted to get the OLF MJ plan and when I tried to add it (it is amazing how FAST Stewmac processes their orders by the way!!) only an hour later they told me they couldn't add it because it had already been processed!

So they offered to send it separately with a 4 dollar discount on shipping, but since it costs 22.95 to ship a single copy of the plan, I decided it wasn't worth it...

Is there any other way I can get the OLF MJ plan, like a PDF download (if it's proprietary info I wouldn't mind paying a nominal fee for it) so I can print it myself?

Stewmac handles the plans. Files are not available.

So are there any suggestions on getting plans? What are the medium jumbo based on, J200? I tried searching online for plans and nobody has even Dreadnaught or OM plans that you can download... are they copyrighted?

You can go to www.grellier.fr and download plans for an OM for free in either English or French. Then copy the plans to a flash drive and take it to your copy center to print a full size set of prints.

You could try here, I cannot vouch for them.
This is a J-200 type, they have others http://ultimate-guitar-online.ultimate-online-services.com/zencart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_2&products_id=24

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

I'm not sure how good they are... they are expensive too considering that LMI sells a print version of Dreadnaught plans for 10 dollars.... but I guess a J200 must be something special.

All their plans are pretty much the same price.
If $13.95 + printing a few pages is too rich for your taste, free downloadable dread plans http://ultimate-guitar-online.ultimate-online-services.com/zencart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_2&products_id=24
Or try the Grellier site for OM /Gibson L00/Martin type 00.
These are easily found and well known, and many people have built from them.
Other suggestions are-
Pictures of guitars bodies/bracing can be blown up on scaled paper, again perfectly easily found on the net.
Also members have provided sometimes very detailed sketches (I remember ladder braced for example, and martin vintage models)
Taylor website has photos of their guitars/bracing as do Martin, I haven't bothered to look at others, yet.
All major brands have dimensions published, with pictures. Brand "fan" sites have 100's of bracing photo's for different models, scalloped. tapered, dolphin (Lowden).
I'm sure many thrifty amateurs with a bit of imagination and resourcefulness have built successful guitars these ways, and probably more ways than I have suggested.
Otherwise just ante up for the work and effort someone has put into producing and distributing plans.

Here's the body shape, print it on a 24"x36" sheet. The shape is measured from a '70's Ibanez copy of a J200, the blocks & bracing are my design.

Rodger, I would like to thank you for the J200 plans as well.
I have a Gibson plan from "The Book"

By the way, if you build a guitar with a J200 body shape but not the Gibson headstock, can Gibson still sue you for it?

Yes, Gibson_can_sue you. However, body shapes are not covered and they would have no chance of winning.
The lawsuit that Gibson filed back in the 70's was against Ibanez. At the time, they were virtually identical to their Gibson counterparts. While Gibson won the lawsuit, the only item that Ibanez was required to change was the shape of the headstock. By the time of the ruling, they had already changed the headstock shape to resemble the Guild headstock.

I heard Martin has decided to start protecting their headstock shape (which is just a rectangle)... however I heard they will have no chance of winning if they sued anyone because they haven't been protecting the shape in the past, and also it's too general to be considered "unique". Has there been any example of Martin enforcing their trademark?

I also am looking for the J-200 plans. I checked out the "Search" area but not much luck. Wondering if anybody knows where I can get the plans with the mustache bridge. I looked at Ultimate Guitar website and don't trust the plans for the J200 to be right since it doesn't show the mustache bridge.

Thanks in advance.

Hutch
